This was our last project of the year and I think it was my favorite project to do because of the historical aspect that it has. This project shows how Native Americans used buffalo hide to communicate or tell stories. First we painted the background to show the warm colors of the sunset and that is what it is suppose to represent. Then we created a story and drew the symbols to show that story. My story says; At sun up I went hunting for buffalo in the mountains. At night I made a bonfire to keep me warm. This was a very fun project to be creative.

An extension of this would be to learn all of the different ways the Native Americans used parts of the buffalo. (they used every single part somehow) After we create this in class the next class we will create something else that could be made from a buffalo part.
This is my totem pole project. It is a bat. This was a really cool and fun project to do. Elementary students would love to do a project like this because it allows them to be creative. This was a good project that shows 3D and color very well. This also shows good team work because they needed to be able to fit together like a totem pole. I chose to make my bat look angry and mean because when I think of bats that's kind of what I picture. On my design I have the wings and the ears bent forward and out to give it that 3 dimensional look. An extension of this would be to learn about native American history and the importance of totem poles in society. I would then have them draw their own totem pole with some history behind it and what it stands for or means.


This cobra knot project was my groups teaching presentation. Our projects elements included color, balance and symmetry. We started our presentation off with a little history of knots. Then we showed off the different knots and talked about what we can use knots for in everyday life. Then we preceded to show off our knot and the basic way of tying it. The students were given yarn as an easier way for them to practice tying this knot. Once we felt they were comfortable with this they were given the string to start the actual project. As we assumed picking up the skill to tie this knot was fairly difficult for them to understand for the most part. We walked around and helped as much as needed until the lesson was over. By the end we felt pretty comfortable that they understood the basics of tying the cobra knot. I think this is a good project because it shows repetitiveness and symmetry very well and it is difficult and it makes the students push themselves until they understand it.

This is my 3D pop up book art project. I thought this was a cool project to do, and it was fun. It was difficult for me to come up with a place to base my project in. I felt this would be a fun hands on project for students to do. My project is suppose to take place in the green rolling hills of Ireland. I have 3d clouds made form cotton balls. and on the bottom half of the page is a sheep. I forgot to put my transportation on this. (woops!) An easy fun extension for this particular project would be for the students to create one of these pop up books with the different kingdoms of the animal chain.

This project was a clay, leaf bowl project. This was a fun project to do because, well who doesn't love to play with clay! I really thought it was cool how they showed us to soften the clay and smooth it out. That was really fun. This is called kneading. Then we flattened our clay and carved out the design of the leaf. We were given the options of how to design our leaves. They then talked about colors of autumn and the warm colors we see. That's how I tried to paint my leaf. A deep red with some yellow aspects throughout the leaf. Varying the colors shows different values throughout this project. The lines through it show the veins of the leaf. And extension for this would be learning the alphabet. The students could make the clay designs into all the 26 letters. They could then paint them different colors with different values. It would be very fun for a group of younger students.

This project is the scratch art project. This was a really cool project because it took us back to our childhood! This project shows colors, lines and 3D designs. In my project I have mountains in the back round with a small cottage in the front of the picture. On the top of the page there is a sunset to show a 3d effect. And to top it off I put a river from the bottom of the sheet to the middle getting thinner to show a final 3d effect. The effect of it getting thinner is suppose to show the river getting further away. This was a great activity for students. An extension off of this is to get the paper and create angles on it. They will be able to see the different angles with the different colors in the design. This would be a math extension.

For this project we got the chance to create some print making designs. To start the teachers asked us to come up with at least three pictures or symbols that represent our personalities some how. I chose the cross to represent my faith, the sun because I love the summer, and the sports to represent my love for sports. we then outlined the pictures on a Styrofoam plate, and we made sure to push hard enough to see the designs. Next we used a roller to put a color of our choice on the plate, then we put the plate design face down on our piece of construction paper and used another roller to transfer the design form the plate to the paper. We then repeated with a different color underneath the first print. I liked this project because it was semi difficult to transfer the print completely, and if it didn't we needed to do it again which was difficult to line it up perfectly again. A cool extension project for this would be to use it while learning the US amendments. Each student could do one and write it out on the plate and transfer it.


This is mine and my groups mosaic art project. The top picture is the final group picture put together while the bottom picture is personal piece of the project. I thought this was a cool project because even though we worked on our own we had to work together as groups of four. This was a good project to show color, repetition and balance. In the end it was really cool to see the final project put together. It was hard to see on its own but put together you can clearly see our groups fish. For an extension project with mosaics I can have my students use the steps for a mosaic to make letters in a language arts extension for a younger group of kids. We can then hang the letters up to help them learn the alphabet.

This is my personal Mandala. The group started by explaining the history of mandalas and the process people go though making them. They showed a video showing this process, which was really a cool visual representation of making real mandala's. The elements they showed were, lines, balance, color, repetition and symmetry. For my Mandala design I started with a cross in the middle to show my faith. The argyle design showed the symmetry and balance and it is a design I really find intriguing. Inside each fourth of the design I have basketballs, footballs and baseballs to show my love for those sports. I found it difficult to keep each sports ball the same size, but other than that I feel like I was able to show all the elements needed in this project. I think this was a fun project to do. For an extension you could have your students do something in each fourth of the mandala to represent each season of the year for a science extension.
This was a really cool and fun project to do in class, and would be very fun for students to do. They first taught us the primary colors and what happens when you mix colors. they had 3 tables setup with different primary colors on each with shaving cream to mix together. I choose blue with some white mixed in and a little bit of yellow also. They had a cookie sheet pan with shaving cream, then mixed t he colors together. We then placed our white piece of construction paper over the colored shaving cream. We picked it up and scraped the excess shaving cream. When the paper dried we cut out a shape in design of our monster. We were instructed to put some designs on it to make it look like a monster.

For my extension project I would use this in a language arts assignment. I would ask my class to come up with 5 verbs that their monster can do. This would be an excellent project for a young class.
